If you live in a place where it snows during winter, make sure you polish your shoes before wearing them for winter so that the leather is protected. In addition, if you want to shield your shoes from the battering rain, snow and mud, just buy a bottle of rain or stain repellent for shoes and spray it on your shoes regularly before you wear them. When you're shoes get wet, air dry them especially for leather shoes. When air drying your shoes, don't place them near a heater or fire to dry them faster because this will make the leather brittle. For sneakers to dry faster, stuff them with newspaper which will absorb all the moisture.
2. Keeping the shoe in good condition is important, if you have shoes that you don't wear often, put them in a box and organize it so that you can see it right away once you decide to wear it. For shoes that you wear regularly, placing them back in their box will prevent them from deformation. If your closet is small, don't worry. Just stack them against the wall. If the boxes are in good condition then about 20 boxes easily can be stacked one on top of each other. But before you maintain them be certain that you already cleaned the shoe to avoid damaging it.
