Travel Guidelines: List Of To Do’s

by Lauren Taylor on September 8, 2010

People tend to be excited with the prospect of travel that they forget things that they are supposed to bring. So what you should do is prepare a list of what to do that you can refer to before leaving the house. Doing this can prevent any unforeseen problems that may crop up while you are away.

Item One: Your water heater should be at its lowest level.

Reminder Two: Do not turn off your air conditioner if it is summer. It will preserve your electronic gadgets and your pets will be comfortable even if it is at the expense of higher power bills.

Item Three: If it is springtime or fall, you can lower your heater setting. But if it is winter, keep your home warm enough. Again, it may cost you in terms of power bills but you will be protecting your pets as well as water pipes and fittings.

Item Four: Shades and drapes should be drawn the usual way as if you were at home.

Item Five: Have a radio that is programmed to turn on and off at different times to give the impression that the house is occupied.

Item Six: Do not forget to lock all entrances and exit points in the house.

Reminder Seven: Unplug everything unless otherwise necessary, not only will it avoid accidental fires but also prevent damage to appliances and electronics during storms. Disconnect your phone line from the modem. Conversely, leave it hooked if your answering machine is your computer. Install the necessary power safety devices. Item Eight: Leave your car in the garage with the door closed, so passersby will not know that you will be away for some time.

Ninth: Remove connections to the garage door. If you want to unplug the fuse, check first that it has no connection to other appliances that you want to leave on such as a refrigerator or freezer. If you do these nine precautionary measures, then you are on your way to a worry-free vacation. You can rest assured feeling that you have the situation at home under control.
